Kyle Dickson, Violin

Kyle Dickson received degrees in Violin Performance from Michigan State University College of Music and DePaul University. He was a prize-winning laureate at the 2012 NANM National Concerto Competition, the Simon Clements Music Competition and the James Tatum Foundation for the Arts Scholarship Competition. He was a recipient of the 2008 Congressional Black Caucus Spouses’ Award in Music Performance, the Norman C. Huver Orchestral Fellowship and the Spaulding-Gulliver Award in Music. His solo and chamber music projects have included collaborations with the Arts League of Michigan, WFMT Chicago, Taneycomo Chamber Players, Cello Plus Chamber Music Festival, and Kalamazoo’s Milwood Series, among others. He has appeared as a soloist with Chicago Sinfonietta, Detroit Festival Camerata, MSU Concert Orchestra, and the Undergraduate Chamber Symphony in Lansing, MI.

He has given masterclasses at Indiana University-South Bend as a member of the Chicago Solisti Quartet and at the Naperville School of Performing Arts as a violinist with the Project Inclusion Ensemble. In the Fall of 2018, he guest conducted, performed and presented in a week long residency at the United World College of Southeast Asia in Singapore and as a member of the Crossing Borders Music Piano Trio. Kyle served as Conductor of the After School Matters Orchestra in Chicago's Garfield Park neighborhood, an ensemble he helped build and that performed at the Shanghai Music Festival as part of MISA International Music Camp 2018. He’s been engaged with Chicago Youth Symphony as a coach and adjucator and is Artist-in-Residence for the 2018-2019 season with the Hyde Park Youth Symphony. He’s also served as Music Director of chamber orchestra Chicago Solisti since it’s founding in 2014 and is currently a member of the chamber music and violin faculty at New Music School. As an educator in Detroit, he taught violin and viola for the Sphinx Organization’s Overture program and served as the Orchestra Director of MLK Educational Center Academy and Conductor/Music Director of the Detroit Festival Camerata. He currently is pursuing graduate studies in Orchestral Conducting at Northwestern University.

Kyle is a member of the Gateways Festival Orchestra in Rochester, NY and the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, MO. He has performed with the Grant Park Symphony, Quad City Symphony, the Dearborn, Lansing and Jackson Symphony Orchestras and with the Michigan Philharmonic among others. Additionally, Kyle is Concertmaster of Chicago Composers Orchestra and has collaborated extensively with many local ensembles including 5th Wave Collective, Amazonland Chamber Players and is a member of D-Composed.
